Our client, a leader in its industry is looking for an ambitious and result-oriented Junior Product Development Engineer – Mechanical to join their team.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for developing robust and innovative design solutions for new products that satisfy customer needs and business objectives. The role entails:

• Prepares and oversees complicated drawings, specifications and calculations.
• Provides technical assistance to marketing and senior management in the investigation of new business opportunities.
•Prepare patent disclosures and provide technical assistance during patent application process and patent analysis.
•Design work to be completed using Pro/Engineer, including the creation of concept models and the drafting of Engineering drawings.
•Undertake comprehensive analytical evaluations (e.g. Tolerance analysis, DFMEA, etc.) to identify and resolve design issues and technical risks early in the development process.
•Generate test plans and perform testing and analysis of proprietary and competitor’s products, including the efficient preparation of high quality technical reports.
•Responsible for ensuring that products comply with applicable regulatory standards and requirements, including the submittal of products for certification with the appropriate agencies (e.g. CSA).
•Support for Engineering systems administration including preparation of bills of materials, engineering change bulletins and project status reports.
•Support Lean, 5S, Kaizen and Innovation initiatives

To become the successful candidate, you must meet these qualifications:
•University or college graduate of a Mechanical Engineering program or related field.
•3-5 years of engineering-related professional experience.
•Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Professional Engineers of Ontario
•Experienced leading Engineering project activities from initial concept through to product launch.
•Experienced in manufacturing processes, tool construction, material selection and design for manufacturability, especially machined, cast, forged brass parts.
•Expertise in Pro/Engineer or equivalent CAD software for the creation of detailed design drawings and specifications. Strong computer skills including MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Project.
•Experienced in PPAP and Trial Run procedures within a Quality Management System.
•Experienced in electrical design would be an asset, especially the integration of sensing, control and power technologies into product. This may include the preparation of electrical specifications, programming, reviewing schematics and board layout.
•Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code and EMI/EMC protection would be an asset.
•Knowledge of plumbing products and systems. Familiarity with various plumbing standards and regulatory requirements including Provincial/National Building Codes, CSA, ASME, ASSE, IAPMO, UL, ISO.
•Persuasive communicator and skilled negotiator when collaborating with team members or outside vendors. Problem solving skills and able to identify and resolve design risks.
•Ability for rapid learning and assimilation of new technologies and technical material.
•Creative, out of the box thinker.
